Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian games tables were introduced during the nineteenth century for parlour entertainment such as chess, backgammon, and cards. They frequently feature foldover or swivelling tops, detailed marquetry inlay, and lower work wells or storage drawers.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid walnut or walnut veneers laid over a softwood carcass. Marquetry gaming surfaces incorporated contrasting woods such as boxwood and rosewood, supported by turned timber legs and fitted with ceramic castors.

Authentic pieces demonstrate period-specific construction marks, including hand-cut joinery, original brass hinges, and natural surface wear on touchpoints. Look for original ceramic or brass castors and age-appropriate oxidisation beneath the table frame.

Position the table in a living room alcove, study, or bay window to serve as a functional accent piece. It can be displayed open to highlight the inlaid game boards or kept closed as a compact side table.

Dust regularly using a dry microfibre cloth and apply beeswax polish periodically to protect the timber. Keep the item away from direct heat sources and damp environments to prevent veneer movement or lifting.
