Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Popular during the nineteenth century, Victorian games tables were specialised pieces of occasional furniture designed for leisure activities such as chess, draughts, or cards, often featuring inlaid boards directly on their upper surface.

These tables were typically crafted from hardwoods like walnut, mahogany, or rosewood, frequently incorporating contrasting timber veneers such as boxwood or ebony for intricate marquetry and chessboards.

Authentic nineteenth-century examples often exhibit hand-cut marquetry, hand-turned pedestal supports like barley twists, hand-carved tripod feet, and period-appropriate hand-cut joinery on the underside.

Position the table in a reading nook, empty corner, or bay window accompanied by a pair of armchairs to create a functional conversational and gaming space.

Dust the surface regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year to nourish the timber and protect the delicate wood inlay.
