Description

A fine 19th century oak and elm bench. This beautiful example — of plain, simple design — has an exceptionally well-figured solid elm top having a most attractive deep colour. The simple trestle end supports are secured with exposed through-tenons into the elm top. It retains its original finish throughout, with a natural patina and a soft lustre shine. It is structurally sound and has no woodworm. This wonderful bench, ideal as a general furnishing piece for any room in the house, can also be used for sitting at a dining table, having a height of 20" (51cms) — the same as a standard dining chair. It dates from c.1875.
