The William IV style dates from approximately 1830 to 1837, marking a transition between late Regency and early Victorian design. It features heavier proportions, architectural shapes, and bold decorative carvings such as acanthus leaves, scrollwork, and paw feet.

High-grade dense timbers were favoured during this era, primarily Cuban mahogany, rosewood, and oak, frequently finished with rich flame veneers applied over solid pine or oak carcases.

Authentic period pieces display crisp hand-carved details, traditional hand-cut mortise and tenon joints, hand-sawn secondary timbers, and natural age-related patination on unexposed underside surfaces.
