1920 - 1940
For Sale by Art Deco World
Description

For those gents out there who desire a less than generic looking watch, who aspire for something not only classy but very distinctively Art Deco then this maybe the timepiece for you! An extremely rare opportunity to acquire a perfect condition Art Deco Gents wrist watch which is what we call 'old new stock', that is to say it's of the period dating to the 1930's but has never been sold, marketed or worn and as you can imagine that's pretty darn rare.

We have been lucky enough to have sourced a few of these watches this year, all Art Deco styled and all dating and original to the 1930's. Watches in this condition, from those years are unique and difficult to find. Never worn this timepiece has been kept in a drawer for several dozen years. In August 2021 this watch had a thorough service, fully stripped, cleaned, oiled and timed to within an inch of it's life.

Chrome-plated steel, Military tank style watch, never worn, slightest superficial storage marks, mint condition for the age, 33.5 X 22.5 MM without lugs . Original, black dial with Arabic numerals, finely green hands, hands and numerals with luminescent mass (this does not seem to be in working order), dial unsigned . The glass crystal is unscratched. A new Black leather strap adds to the wow factor to this watch.

The watch is perfect both for everyday wear and for adding to the collections. Lovely watch any gentleman would love to wear. The case back is free of any engravings, shows no wear-through to the plating.

All of our watches are sent out in complimentary presentation boxes, ideal for gifting and to store for personal collections.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Art Deco wristwatches from the 1930s are characterised by geometric cases, rectangular or tonneau shapes, bold typography, and stylised dials such as railroad track chapter rings.

Wristwatches from this era commonly featured chrome-plated brass or stainless steel cases, fitted with acrylic or glass crystals and mechanical hand-wound movements.

Authentic pieces generally feature hand-wound mechanical movements, geometric case shapes, period-accurate Arabic numerals, sub-second dials, and manufacturer hallmarks stamped inside the case back.

A rectangular Art Deco wristwatch serves as a formal dress watch, pairing appropriately with tailored suits or smart casual attire alongside a simple leather strap.

Mechanical vintage watches require servicing every three to five years by a qualified horologist, protection from water and magnetic fields, and gentle manual winding without over-tightening.
