Art Deco Oak Dining Suite, C.1930

1920 - 1940
Description

A stylish Art Deco twelve piece oak dining suite dating to the 1930’s and comprising a drawleaf dining table, ten chairs and a sideboard. All in solid and veneered golden quarter-sawn oak the dining table is in the refectory style extending by means of a pop-up centre leaf allowing it to seat up to 10 people, on turned baluster supports with an H stretcher. The matching chairs with the same turned baluster legs, unusual square backs and geometric carved decoration, with drop-in faux leather seats. The sideboard has the curves typical of the period and with a low carved gallery back above two drawers and two cupboard doors, the front legs sitting on unusual pine ball supports, with brass handles and one drawer divided for cutlery.

In good condition with some old dark scratches to the table, there is an old repair to the back leg on one chair and the baize to the sideboard drawer is worn. There are general marks from age and use and some fading and loss of polish.

The overall dimensions are approximately (width x depth x height)

Table (extended) - 83.75in x 35.75in x 29.5in (212.5cm x 91cm x 75cm)

When buying it is important appreciate antiques have long histories of daily use and as such, over time they gain minor scratches, marks, knocks, shrinkage splits, signs of old woodworm, lifts and losses to veneer, which combine with care and years of polishing to create an individual character and patina. We describe the main flaws and those that fall outside of this bracket but cannot describe each marks separately and therefore suggest you do take the time to request extra photos. We do offer a 14 day money back guarantee if you are unhappy with your purchase but cannot refund the return shipping cost. If you are not sure please do not buy without clarifying or take the view that the only way to have it as near to new as possible is to have it fully and comprehensively restored.
