Description:
This is a superb quality antique Victorian mahogany & marquetry inlaid three-piece parlour suite, comprising a couch and two side chairs, circa 1890, which has been newly upholstered, and is in excellent condition. The suite comprises a couch and two side chairs, which boast curved, shaped backs, featuring exquisite elaborate satinwood and bone foliate & urn marquetry inlaid back splats and elegant pierced fretwork. The couch features a twin back, with a further marquetry inlaid central back splat. The couch back is also connected to elegant arms on shaped supports.
The front of the seat frames features a serpentine design, and the frame in general is decorated with satinwood string inlay throughout, including the backs, arms, seat frame and legs. The couch and chairs rest on cabriole legs to the front and splayed legs to the rear; the cabriole legs also display marquetry inlay to the knees.

Condition Report:
This three-piece suite is in excellent condition. Nominal old use marks to the mahogany frame, but nothing significant, considering the age of this item.The frame, back and legs of the suite are completely original.Importantly, the backs and arms are firm and there is no play in the joints. There is no missing inlay or marquetry work. The suite has been newly upholstered in beautiful pale gold & cream coloured structured silk brocade, and finished with matching braiding. The upholstery and braiding is therefore clean and free of marks, dirt or tears. The seats are firm and are comfortable to sit on. The three-piece suite is solid in joint and ready to use.
