Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the 18th century, the box toilet mirror was designed as a portable dressing accessory for bedrooms and dressing rooms. It combines an adjustable rectangular or shield-shaped mirror plate suspended above a wooden box base containing small drawers for jewellery and toiletries.

These mirrors were primarily built using solid or veneered mahogany, walnut, or satinwood. Secondary timbers like pine or oak were used for drawer linings, and the fittings typically featured cast brass escutcheons, handles, and turned finials.

Authentic period pieces display hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawers, original brass hardware, and hand-planed timber surfaces. The back of the mirror frame often shows historic wood shrinkage, and the original glass mirror plate may exhibit mild foxing or silvering breakdown.

Position the piece on top of a bedroom chest of drawers, a hallway console table, or a dressing table to introduce historic texture and height. The compact footprint allows it to function as both a reflective surface and small-item storage.

Dust the woodwork regularly with a dry, soft lint-free cloth and apply a clear beeswax polish once or twice a year to maintain the timber finish. Avoid clean water or harsh chemical sprays on the silvered mirror glass and keep the item away from direct heat sources.
