An exceptionally rare George III metamorphic writing and dressing chest of exhibition quality, in the manner of Gillows. Figured mahogany, with inset thuya oval panels banded in kingwood and purple heart. Fold over top opening to reveal a baize lined writing surface, above an arrangement of small drawers fitted with original gilt brass handles. Rising concealed rear section, with pigeon holes and small drawers, and a further hinged top which reveals fitted vanity compartments and a folding mirror. Raised on inlaid square tapered legs capped with brass castors.
