Description

Here is an extremely pretty and unusual antique French provincial chestnut hall settle / bench, measuring 5ft 10?” wide, circa 1850, in good original condition, which originated from the provinces of Brittany in northern France. Featuring arched finials above a bank of miniaturised fine fruitwood ring turned spindles, incorporating four shaped moulded open Arcadian panels, secured by down swept arms, raised on enlarged supports. The seat incorporates three planks above a shaped apron with repeating designs, secured by shaped legs to front, straight legs to the rear; all of which are united by twin moulded stretches for added stability. The seat is solid and comfortable to sit on. The frame is constructed using the traditional wooden peg method.

The settle features a rich warm brown chestnut colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
