Set of 8 Mahogany Dining Chairs in Hepplewhite Style Early 1900s

1900 - 1920
For Sale by Limited Editions
Description

A good fine set of mahogany dining chairs from the early 1900s. These chairs, in a popular Hepplewhite style are a set of 8, six plus two carvers. They are in good condition, Joints are good and seats are all in leather, clearly they have not been abused since being reupholstered. Polish may be bit dark for todays taste but it is very typical of the period. The shape is most appealing and the front legs have a reeding down the edges and a splay foot. What is certainly most appealing is the price. A set of Eight mahogany chairs like this, especially having the pair of carvers, could easily be around the £2000 mark. this set is nice and clean and most useable, available for only £945 as they are.

The backs of the chairs are 37ins tall, dimensions below relate to the seat.

We have tables available too. There are always around 20 to 30 tables and sets of chairs in stock.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Named after the 18th-century cabinetmaker George Hepplewhite, this style is recognised by neoclassical proportions, arched or shield-shaped seat backs, and slender tapered legs.

Primary timber construction typically favoured solid mahogany or satinwood, paired with close-nailed leather, silk damask, or horsehair upholstered seats.

Revival pieces from the Edwardian period feature precise joinery alongside carved detailing, often reproducing authentic proportions such as wheat-sheaf or urn pierced splats and square tapered legs.

Positioning a set around a contemporary minimalist dining table creates visual contrast between historic woodwork and clean architectural lines.

Apply beeswax polish along the grain of the timber twice yearly to protect the mahogany finish, and treat leather upholstery with a specialist conditioner to prevent cracking.
