Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Hepplewhite chairs originate from the late 18th-century designs of George Hepplewhite, characterised by distinctive shield, oval, or heart-shaped openwork backs. They frequently feature detailed carving, tapered legs, and balanced classical proportions.

Primary frames were predominantly constructed from solid mahogany or satinwood due to structural strength and dense grain. Upholstered seats were commonly covered in silk damask, leather, or horsehair fabric, attached with brass-studded trim or piping.

Look for hand-carved detailing on the splats, traditional mortise and tenon joinery, and age-related patination on the timber. Genuine period pieces feature subtle irregularities in turnings and construction indicative of hand crafting.

Pair these chairs with a contemporary minimalist dining table to create visual contrast between traditional and modern elements. Neutral upholstery fabrics can update the aesthetic while complementing contemporary colour palettes.

Keep the timber clean using a dry microfibre cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish twice yearly along the grain. Position chairs away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent wood shrinkage, joint loosening, and fabric fading.
