Description

An impressive C19th cast iron squirrel garden bench / seat of monumental proportions, by George Smith & Co’s Sun Foundry in Glasgow, one of Scotland’s leading iron manufacturers. The heavy pierced cast iron ends incorporating a large squirrel and a mouse sat behind in trailing oak leaves; above scrollwork and floral decoration. The scrolled back terminating with star decoration and standing on winged lion legs terminating with paw feet. With a matching central support. The bench being recently refurbished and painted in a pale green and the slats made from 'Douglas Fir' (as used by the National Trust).

Stamped to the underside 'George Smith & Co. Sun Foundry Glasgow'

The slats have been left to age naturally, but can be oiled if preferred.
