Art Deco Walnut, Macassar & Marquetry Bedroom Suite

1900 - 1920
Description

A fabulous seven piece Art Deco walnut, macassar ebony & marquetry bedroom suite thought to be by Bath Cabinet Makers. Dating to c.1925 and of super quality it features three different designs of inlaid geometric bandings in boxwood, satinwood, ebony and ivory, a chequer design to the legs, ivory handles and further large marquetry panels of vases of fruit and flowers to the wardrobe and tallboy.

Comprising a three door wardrobe, double bed, tallboy, dressing table, stool and pair of chairs, the wardrobe has a central bevelled glass mirror door enclosing a long 18 ½in (47cm) deep hanging space with a rail, hooks and shelf above, whilst the right hand side has four removable shelves. The dressing table has a bevelled mirror to the centre with inlaid surround and supported by two tapering inlaid uprights and has a matching walnut and macassar edged stool, the double bed is panelled and inlaid to both the head and footboard which are connected by two iron rails whilst the tallboy has a pair of marquetry inlaid cupboard doors below three drawers. The two chairs have a matching inlaid central splat with further inlays to the top of the legs and cane filled seats.

In good condition with impressed numbers to the reverse and ‘Gaylayde Modern Decorative Furniture’ labels, the colour has mellowed and the twist action to the wardrobe door handles does not work and a handle of the dressing table has been repaired. The mirrors are in good condition with minor fine spotting, minor old scratches to surfaces and losses to veneers (mostly to the macassar at the base of the pieces and around the stool).

Dealers Notes

When buying it is important appreciate antiques have long histories of daily use and as such, over time they gain minor scratches, marks, knocks, shrinkage splits, signs of old woodworm, lifts and losses to veneer, which combine with care and years of polishing to create an individual character and patina. We describe the main flaws and those that fall outside of this bracket but cannot describe each marks separately and therefore suggest you do take the time to request extra photos. We do offer a 14 day money back guarantee if you are unhappy with your purchase but cannot refund the return shipping cost. If you are not sure please do not buy without clarifying or take the view that the only way to have it as near to new as possible is to have it fully and comprehensively restored.

For delivery we use a small carrier experience in carrying antique furniture. Delivery is usually within 31 days and the carrier will make arrangements with you directly. We can provide contact details of other carriers if required.
