Arts & Crafts Oak Four Piece Bedroom Suite, Attributed to Maple & Co

19th century
Description

A superb quality four piece oak bedroom suite attributed to Maple & Co of London and dating to the late 19th/early 20th century. In golden quarter-sawn oak this beautiful suite features egg and dart mouldings with fluting and floral emblems to the cornices, further bead and reel mouldings and panelling to the sides whilst the wardrobe and dressing chest drawers have repousse handles & backplates depicting stylised opened tulips with stamens.

Comprising a breakfront fitted wardrobe with central mirror door, it has a well fitted interior with various shelves, sliding trays and drawers flanked by 18in (45.8cm) deep hanging spaces to each side. The dressing chest has a large swing mirror to the centre and two further adjustable mirrors to the sides on supports with corner shelves and drawers, the back is also panelled and it could be used freestanding in a room. The washstand has a white & grey veined marble splashback and top with single cupboard door below and two wooden towel rails to each side. The firescreen is utterly charming with a depiction of a firesurround and fire complete with linen fold panelling and fireside tools.

In excellent condition, the wardrobe doors are fitted with the original brass handles, the side doors have locks and a key whilst the centre door closes snuggly but has had the lock removed. The mirrors on both the wardrobe and dressing chest are bevelled and are in good condition, there are some minor spots and a small area of distortion in the dressing chest. There are some watermarks to the top of the dressing chest and the washstand marble top has darkened where not covered up. The finish on some of the drawer handles is rubbed.

Dealers Notes

When buying it is important appreciate antiques have long histories of daily use and as such, over time they gain minor scratches, marks, knocks, shrinkage splits, signs of old woodworm, lifts and losses to veneer, which combine with care and years of polishing to create an individual character and patina. We describe the main flaws and those that fall outside of this bracket but cannot describe each marks separately and therefore suggest you do take the time to request extra photos. We do offer a 14 day money back guarantee if you are unhappy with your purchase but cannot refund the return shipping cost. If you are not sure please do not buy without clarifying or take the view that the only way to have it as near to new as possible is to have it fully and comprehensively restored.

For delivery we use a small carrier experience in carrying antique furniture. Delivery is usually within 31 days and the carrier will make arrangements with you directly. We can provide contact details of other carriers if required.
