Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Georgian chests of drawers, originating from the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, are characterised by classical proportions, flame mahogany veneers, and functional drawer configurations such as two short over two or three long drawers. Style variations often feature bowfront or serpentine fronts alongside bracket or splayed feet.

Georgian cabinetmakers primarily used West Indian mahogany for outer frames and veneers, favoured for its deep colour and dense grain pattern. Secondary timbers used for internal drawer linings and framing typically included pine or oak, assembled using hand-cut dovetail joints.

Authentic Georgian chests feature hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, hand-planed timber backboards, and authentic age wear to the underside of the drawer runners. Keyholes often feature brass thread escutcheons, and drawer bottoms usually exhibit natural timber shrinkage gaps running parallel to the grain.

A Georgian mahogany chest of drawers can serve as a functional focal point in a hallway, bedroom, or living space. Layering contemporary artwork, ceramic vessels, or a modern table lamp on the top surface creates an intentional contrast between traditional woodwork and contemporary design.

Keep mahogany furniture away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber movement, veneer lifting, and colour fading. Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish twice a year to preserve the original patination.
