Here is a superb quality antique Victorian carved solid oak carved high back settle, circa 1880.
The settle boasts elegant down swept carved arms in the shape of a lion’s body and head. The hinged carved anthemion motif oak seat lifts up to reveal a large storage area which us ideal for storing shoes. The seat also boasts an elegant floral moulding. The box panel below features lion head carvings surrounded by further floral detail above a floral carved frieze. The settle stands on raised paw feet.
The settle feature a deep rich dark Jacobean colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour, depth and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received. It is impossible to re-create this colour if it has been re-polished.
This item would look superb in a variety of rooms from the hallway or kitchen. This item would certainly grace any home and a great investment, as it’s an extremely functional item. So don't miss out your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
Condition Report:
The item is in excellent original condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The original hinges are in good working order. The settle retains its original polish, which is why it boasts such a lovely deep rich dark Jacobean colour. There are no breaks to the backs, arms or base of the settle. The settle is solid in joint and is ready to be used.
