Constructed of solid mahogany, this settle boasts the classic art noveau design lines. The top section features a shaped central carved pediment. Each corner of the settle is finished with the classic art noveau finials. Below, there are three stunning panels inlaid with satinwood, boxwood & harewood and interspersed with a reeded frame. To the bottom corners of the back panel are carved wheel corbels. The settle features downswept reeded arms, which are supported by, turned supports. The solid mahogany seat lifts up on its original hinges to reveal a useful storage area for shoes. Below, the box section features lovely satinwood inlay to the front section. The settle stands on a reeded leg, which terminates in pear shaped turned feet.
As this item boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and the years of care and cleaning they have received.
The settle has good proportions which makes it a sought after size; it was designed to fit into narrow rooms such as hallways.
Condition Report:
This item is in excellent working original condition. The cupboard doors feature a working lock and a key. The settle features the original polish, which is why the colour and patination of this cupboard is superb. All inlays are original and intact. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The item is solid in joint and ready to use.
