Description

A fine quality early 20th century mahogany Chippendale revival commode of serpentine form in the Rococo style.

The top, of serpentine form has a carved edge consisting of an entwined ribbon and flower design.

The drawer fronts consist of fine quality mahogany veneers, also of serpentine form, with gilt Rococo style handles & escutcheons.

The two drawers have mahogany sides and drawer bottoms with pine backs. Each drawer is cock beaded with a ball design moulding.

Each front corner has finely carved trusses of acanthus.

The sides consist of good quality figured mahogany & are of square form.

This piece stands on a serpentine shaped and carved base with a lattice design frieze with scrolling acanthus carving.

This leads down to four French style carved cabriole legs, each terminating with a scroll foot.

This piece is of excellent quality so would have been made by a good cabinet maker from a company making high quality items, unfortunately there are no makers marks evident.

This commode is a very versatile piece and would be a fine addition to any hallway, living room or bedroom.

This piece is in excellent condition, is of stable construction and can go straight into a home.
