Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Rococo Revival clocks from the mid-19th century feature asymmetrical scrollwork, naturalistic elements such as wheat sheaves or flora, and detailed figural sculpture such as putti. This aesthetic draws directly from the 18th-century French Louis XV period, emphasizing fluid lines and elaborate gilded decoration.

These timepieces were typically constructed using cast bronze or spelter treated with mercury gilding or gold lacquer. Dials were composed of white fired enamel over copper with hand-painted numerals, and base accents often featured painted porcelain plaques.

Authentic pieces generally display maker stamps or medallion hallmarks pressed into the rear movement brass plate, such as those from Japy Freres. Examination of the casting seams, hand-chased surface details, and double-train pendulum mechanisms also indicates period construction.

Positioning the clock as a focal anchor on a marble mantelpiece or structured credenza balances its ornate detailing against minimalist modern architecture. Surrounding it with simple contemporary ceramics or clean-lined artwork prevents the arrangement from feeling overly historical.

Gilt surfaces should be dusted exclusively with a soft, dry camel-hair brush to prevent wear to the gold layer; liquid cleaners or abrasive polishes must be avoided. The mechanical movement requires periodic professional servicing and key-winding to maintain operational condition.
