D and A Binder Ltd has dated this piece to the 1930s.

The original solid teak seat displays a rich golden-brown colour, attractive natural grain and a beautifully developed patina acquired through decades of everyday use. Beneath, the original galvanised wire mesh storage compartments provided practical storage for pupils' shoes and gym plimsolls, allowing footwear to be neatly organised while promoting airflow and preventing the build-up of dirt and moisture.

The steel frame has been professionally refinished in a durable satin black finish, creating a striking contrast with the warm beech top while complementing the original galvanised mesh. Raised on sturdy square-section legs with circular steel feet, the bench remains solid and is a fine example of the honest craftsmanship.

Originally intended for use in a school gymnasium or changing room, where pupils would sit while changing into gym plimsolls, it would now make an excellent hallway bench, boot room seat, retail display or statement piece within both industrial and contemporary interiors.
