1940s Bravingtons Half Hunter Pocket Watch

1920 - 1940
Description

1940s Bravingtons half hunter pocket watch.

The watch has a Swiss 16-jewel stem-winding movement, identified as by Thommen Revue for Bravingtons, which is working nicely. The movement is signed with the Renown name, a brand name registered by Bravingtons in 1935 for Swiss watches to be sold under their name. The movement is protected by an inner cover.

The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is the gold plated Star model from the Dennison Watch Case Company. Dennisons was an English company who manufactured and supplied cases for many watch makers, often in an effort to avoid import duty on precious metals. The case is in super condition.

The winding crown pushes in to open the front cover.

Inside, the lens is in super condition, as is the signed dial. Original hands, including the special half hunter hour hand so that the time can be read when the front cover is closed.

The watch comes in its original Bravingtons presentation box.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A half hunter pocket watch, also known as a demi-hunter, features a protective outer case cover with a central glass aperture. This design enables the wearer to read the time without opening the front cover completely.

Mid-century pocket watches frequently feature cases constructed from solid gold, rolled gold, or gold-plated brass, surrounding an enamel dial with steel hands. Internal mechanical movements rely on brass plates, steel gearing, and synthetic ruby jewels for friction reduction.

Authentic pieces generally display manufacturer hallmarks, serial numbers, or maker marks inside the case back or directly on the movement. The presence of a recessed subsidiary seconds dial, precise Roman numeral printing, and period-correct maker branding helps confirm authenticity.

A vintage pocket watch can be worn traditionally in a waistcoat pocket attached via an Albert chain, or secured inside the breast pocket of a tailored suit jacket. Alternatively, it can be displayed on a standalone glass dome stand as a decorative desk item.

Mechanical pocket watches require regular servicing by a professional horologist every three to five years to clean the movement and apply fresh lubrication. To preserve the item, store it in a dry environment away from magnetic fields, and avoid over-winding the mainspring.
