Antique Waltham Half Hunter Pocket Watch, 1919

1900 - 1920
Description

Antique Waltham half hunter pocket watch, 1919.

The watch has a 15-jewel stem-winding movement, grade 620, which is working nicely. The movement is fully signed with the Waltham name and it has the serial number 22,642,823 which dates it back to 1919. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.

The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the loop. The case is the gold plated Star model from the Dennison Watch Case Company, suppliers of cases to Waltham UK. The case is in good condition, just light surface marks but nothing too serious at all. The front cover has a central lens, which has some marking, surrounded by enamel filled Roman numerals.

The winding crown pushes in to open the front cover. Inside, there is a glass lens which is in super condition (some white natural light reflection showing in the main photo).

The signed dial is in beautiful condition with original blued steel hands including the special half hunter hour hand so that the time can be read when the front cover is closed.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A half hunter pocket watch, also known as a demi-hunter, features a protective front cover with a central glass window, enabling the wearer to read the time via outer chapter ring numerals without opening the case.

Timepieces from this era were typically constructed with gold-filled, rolled gold, or solid gold cases, glass crystals, white enamel dials, and mechanical brass movements fitted with synthetic jewel bearings.

Authentic Waltham pocket watches feature movement serial numbers etched directly onto the internal mechanism rather than the outer case, which can be cross-referenced with factory production records to verify the precise manufacture date.

An antique pocket watch can be worn traditionally with an Albert chain attached to a waistcoat or jacket lapel, carried as an everyday pocket accessory, or displayed on a dedicated watch stand as a desk ornament.

Keep mechanical timepieces in a dry, temperature-controlled environment away from moisture and strong magnetic fields, wind them gently until natural resistance is met, and have the internal movement serviced by a horologist every three to five years.
