1930s Half Hunter Pocket Watch, Folkestone Fishermen

1920 - 1940
Description

1930s half hunter pocket watch, Folkestone Fishermen

The watch has a Swiss stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is signed Everite, a brand name used by H Samuel jewellers.

It is all protected by an inner hinged cover which has an inscription, ‘Presented to S E Elliott as a small token of appreciation from Officers and Members of The Folkestone Fishermen’s Society, 28 Feb 1935’.

The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is the gold plated Star model from the Birmingham watch case maker Aaron Dennison. He was a prolific manufacturer and supplied various watch factories. The case is in lovely condition, just a little wear to the plate around the hinges, but nothing too detrimental at all. The back of the watch has Mr Elliott’s monogrammed initials.

The winding crown pushes in to release the front cover.

Inside, there is an acrylic lens which is in lovely condition.

The signed dial is in very nice condition with original blued steel hands, including the special half hunter hour hand so that the time can be read when the front cover is closed.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.

We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A half hunter pocket watch, also known as a demi-hunter, features a protective outer cover with a central glass window, allowing the wearer to read the time without opening the main case.

Pocket watches from the 1930s were commonly constructed using gold plate, solid gold, or rolled gold for the casing, featuring enamel dials, steel hands, and brass mechanical movements.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-wound mechanical movements, period-appropriate maker stamps or signatures on the dial, and characteristic Art Deco typography on the chapter ring.

A pocket watch can be carried traditionally in a waistcoat or jacket pocket attached to a chain, or placed on a dedicated desk stand as a functional decorative timepiece.

Keep the timepiece in a dry environment, avoid exposure to strong magnetic fields, and have the mechanical movement cleaned and lubricated by a professional horologist every few years.
