Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian open armchair features exposed wooden arm supports rather than fully solid upholstered sides, offering a lighter visual profile. These chairs typically incorporate deep buttoning, raked backs, coil spring seating, and turned timber legs fitted with brass castors.

Victorian armchairs were built with solid hardwood frames, typically beech, birch, or mahogany. The internal padding relied on natural materials such as hand-lashed steel coil springs, coconut fibre, horsehair, and heavy cotton calico under-upholstery.

Authentic Howard & Sons pieces often feature stamped markings on the inside of the rear legs or on the brass castors themselves. Their construction is notable for high-grade beech frames, feather-filled cushions, and distinctive printed ticking fabric.

A Victorian armchair can serve as an accent piece in a contemporary living room or bedroom reading nook. Re-upholstering the piece in textured linen, velvet, or neutral wool bridges the gap between historical craftsmanship and modern design.

Keep the armchair away from direct heat sources and prolonged sunlight to prevent wood warping and fabric fading. Clean calico or final upholstery using soft brush attachments, and treat wooden turned legs with natural beeswax polish.
