Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A cheval mirror is a full-length mirror mounted on a vertical frame that allows the glass to swivel backwards and forwards. The term originates from the French word for horse, referring to the four-legged support structure, and the design gained widespread popularity during the late eighteenth century.

Historic examples were predominantly constructed from dense hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, or rosewood. The frames featured silvered glass plates, brass swivel fittings, and turned or shaped timber legs.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit hand-cut joinery, original brass adjusting knobs, authentic mercury or silver glass backing showing mild oxidation, and natural wear along the base and timber joints.

Position the mirror near natural light sources or within a dressing corner to reflect light and create a sense of height. Combining dark timber finishes with neutral walls and modern textiles balances period character with minimalist design.

Dust the timber frame regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply beeswax sparingly along the wood grain. Clean the mirror glass using a dedicated glass cleaner applied to a cloth rather than sprayed directly onto the frame to protect the silvering and finish.
