Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Vernis Martin vitrine is a glazed display cabinet decorated with a specific japanning varnish technique developed by the Martin brothers in 18th-century France to imitate East Asian lacquerwork, frequently featuring romantic pastoral scenes on the lower wooden panels.

These cabinets were constructed using fine hardwoods such as kingwood, rosewood, or mahogany veneers applied over an oak or pine frame, complemented by mouth-blown glass panes and hand-cast gilt-bronze ormolu mounts.

Authentic pieces display hand-chiseled bronze mounts with natural oxidisation on the reverse, finely executed hand-painted oil scenes exhibiting fine micro-craquelure, and traditional 19th-century joinery techniques such as hand-cut dovetails.

A classic vitrine creates a focal point when placed against a contemporary neutral wall, functioning effectively to display curated ceramics, glassware, or art books alongside tailored modern seating.

Dust the surfaces gently using a dry microfibre cloth, keeping the cabinet away from direct sunlight and central heating sources to prevent veneer cracking, and avoid chemical polishes on gilt-bronze mounts.
