Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A 19th-century pollard oak bookcase is a cabinet crafted from oak timber harvested from trees subjected to pollarding, a historical pruning technique that causes dense, distinctive swirl-grained growth patterns across the timber.

These bookcases typically feature two-part construction for transportation, using solid oak framing, hand-cut dovetail joints, glass panes, and turned circular boss mouldings applied to panelled cabinet doors.

Authentic pieces exhibit dense, natural figure variance across the grain, historical brass lock escutcheons, hand-planed timber undersides, and evidence of traditional mortise and tenon joinery rather than modern uniform fasteners.

Position the cabinet as a central focal piece against neutral walls, utilizing the glazed upper shelves to display curated ceramics, art books, or glassware alongside traditional volumes.

Dust the wood surface regularly with a soft, dry cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish periodically to preserve the timber finish, ensuring the cabinet is positioned away from direct heat sources and excessive humidity.
