Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A repeating carriage clock is a portable mechanical timepiece fitted with a push-button mechanism that sounds the nearest hour or quarter on demand. First developed in France during the early 19th century, these clocks were designed to allow travellers to check the time in the dark without lighting a candle.

Carriage clocks were typically constructed with heavy gilt or polished brass cases housing a spring-driven movement. The sides and top are fitted with thick bevelled glass panels to expose the internal escapement, while the dial is usually crafted from fired white enamel or masked brass.

Authentic period carriage clocks feature hand-assembled mechanical movements, heavy solid brass construction, and thick bevelled glass panes. They often bear maker stamps, serial numbers, or French trademarks on the back plate, alongside hand-finished escapements rather than modern quartz components.

Place the clock on a mantelpiece, bookshelf, or executive desk to create an anchor point within a contemporary scheme. Pair the warm metallic tones of the polished brass with dark wooden surfaces, stacked art books, or minimalist ceramics to balance historical charm with modern aesthetics.

Keep the clock in a temperature-stable environment free from excess moisture to prevent tarnish and damage to the movement. Dust the brass casing and glass panels gently with a soft microfiber cloth, avoiding liquid chemicals or abrasive metal polishes that can remove protective lacquers.
