Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Carriage clocks were developed in France during the early nineteenth century as portable timepieces designed for travel. They typically featured sturdy rectangular cases with carrying handles, balance wheel escapements to function during movement, and glass panels to display the internal mechanics.

Traditional carriage clocks are primarily constructed from cast brass or gilded bronze, paired with clear or bevelled glass plates. Dials are commonly made from fired white enamel over copper, set with blued steel hands.

Authentic period carriage clocks display heavy cast brass cases, hand-assembled mechanical movements, and white enamel dials free from modern printing artifacts. Many original French and English examples carry maker hallmarks or serial numbers stamped directly onto the back plate of the mechanism.

A brass carriage clock serves as a sophisticated focal point on a mantelpiece, bookshelf, or desk. Pairing bright brass timepieces alongside natural materials like dark timber or marble creates an elegant contrast within contemporary spaces.

Keep the clock in a dry environment with stable humidity to prevent oxidisation of the brass casing. Mechanical movements require periodic servicing and light lubrication by a qualified horologist every five to seven years.
