Rare Tea Caddy Table Circa 1820

18th century
Description

A very rare 'tea caddy' pembroke table circa 1820 with one of the two drawers containing a tea caddy which is original to the piece. The table is a beautiful mahogany with crossbanding and stringing to the top. The drawers and apron are decorated with stringing and ebony inlay. The curved legs, which are joined by a shaped tier are also decorated with stringing and sit on brass castors.

A very attractive, high quality table which with the inclusion of the tea caddy also makes it very rare - I have been unable to find another like it.

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Regency tea caddy table is a specialized piece of English occasional furniture from the early nineteenth century designed to store tea leaves securely while offering a versatile tabletop surface for hosting.

Cabinetmakers during the Regency era primarily utilized solid mahogany and mahogany veneers, often accentuating the wood with satinwood crossbanding, brass hardware, and intricate marquetry inlays.

Authentic Regency pieces typically feature classical proportions, splayed or saber legs, hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, brass castors, and original timber patination showing natural wear over time.

Positioning a drop-leaf table beside a sofa or within a reading nook provides flexible surface area, while its warm wood tones add historic texture to contemporary decorative schemes.

Dust the wood regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a beeswax polish occasionally, keeping the item away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent timber warping and finish fading.
