Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Georgian oak coffer is a wooden storage chest produced during the Georgian era, typically between 1714 and 1830. Constructed with solid oak panels and joinery, these pieces were used primarily for storing linens, clothing, and household textiles.

Coffers from this period were crafted using frame-and-panel joinery secured with wooden peg fasteners. They featured raised stiles extending downwards to form integral legs, a heavy hinged top, and often hand-forged iron or cast brass fittings.

Authentic 18th-century chests show evidence of hand-planed timber surfaces, pegged mortise and tenon joints, irregular saw marks on backboards, and authentic age wear to the base of the stiles and around the lock plate.

An oak coffer functions well at the foot of a bed, in an entrance hall for concealed storage, or positioned behind a sofa as a low console. The dark timber provides visual weight and contrast against contemporary light neutral palettes.

Maintain antique oak by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and applying a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage or splitting.
