Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The William IV period spans from 1830 to 1837, marking a bridge between Regency elegance and Victorian weight. Furniture from this era is characterised by robust proportions, prominent turnings, rich woods like rosewood and mahogany, and classical motifs such as acanthus leaves and scroll feet.

19th-century card tables were typically constructed with solid mahogany or oak sub-frames faced in high-grade veneers such as rosewood or walnut. The interior playing surfaces were commonly lined with wool felt or baize, and supported by cast iron or brass castors.

Authentic pieces feature heavy, solid construction, hand-carved details such as acanthus collar turned pedestals, quadform plinth bases, and scrolled bracket feet. Look for original brass castors, swivel-and-fold top mechanisms, and dark, distinctive rosewood grain patterns.

When folded closed, a card table functions effectively as a hall console or occasional side table against a wall. Placing decorative ceramics, lamps, or books on top integrates the piece into contemporary living rooms, foyers, or dining spaces.

Keep rosewood furniture out of direct sunlight and away from central heating sources to prevent wood movement and finish bleaching. Clean surfaces with a soft microfibre cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish periodically to nourish the wood finish.
