We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A linen press is a substantial cabinet traditionally crafted in two parts, featuring an upper cupboard fitted with slides or shelves above a lower chest of drawers. Popular from the 18th to the 19th century, it was primarily designed for storing household linens, bedding, and folded garments.

High-quality 19th-century linen presses were predominantly built using mahogany, often featuring flame mahogany veneers on the door panels and drawer fronts. Secondary timbers such as pine, oak, or deal were commonly used for internal drawer linings and back panels.

Authentic William IV pieces from the 1830s feature characteristic design traits such as heavy classical proportions, carved scroll pediments, arched panelled doors, and turned feet. Look for hand-cut dovetail joints, original brass locks, and natural oxidation on the interior secondary woods.

A mahogany linen press can serve as a focal point in a master bedroom, guest room, or wide hallway, offering both functional storage and architectural presence. Pair it with neutral wall palettes, textured linen soft furnishings, and brass accents to balance the dark timber tones.

Dust the timber regularly with a clean, dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year to maintain the finish. Avoid placing the press in direct sunlight or near heat sources to prevent timber shrinkage and veneer movement.
