Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Chippendale furniture originated in 18th-century England, drawing inspiration from Gothic, Chinese, and Rococo design traditions. Key hallmarks include intricate pierced back splats, serpentine top rails, carved detailing, and dense timbers such as mahogany.

Mid-18th-century armchairs were predominantly crafted from solid dense mahogany imported from the West Indies. Construction relied on mortise and tenon joinery, corner blocks for structural reinforcement, and drop-in or fixed upholstered seats.

Authentic period pieces exhibit signs of age such as natural timber shrinkage, oxidisation on unpolished surfaces, and hand-cut joinery. Look for irregularity in hand-carved details and original secondary woods on internal corner framing.

A carved mahogany armchair functions effectively as a focal desk chair in a home study or positioned as an accent chair beside a contemporary side table. Combining historic timber seating with clean-lined modern furniture creates a balanced, layered aesthetic.

Position the chair away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent timber movement and fabric fading. Apply high-grade natural beeswax polish periodically to nourish the wood and dust regularly with a soft lint-free cloth.
