Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian silver hip flask is a small, portable container designed to carry spirits, crafted from sterling silver during the nineteenth century. These vessels were shaped with a subtle curve to fit comfortably in a coat or trouser pocket.

Traditional hip flasks were primarily constructed from sterling silver, occasionally featuring gilded interiors to prevent liquid tarnishing the metal. Higher quality examples feature secure screw or bayonet caps attached with a fitted retaining chain.

Authentic period pieces feature official British hallmark stamps indicating silver purity, assay office location, date letter, and makers mark. Look for crisp hallmarking alongside period-appropriate monogramming and hand-fitted cap mechanisms.

An antique silver flask can be styled on a drinks tray, bar cart, or sideboard top alongside crystal glass decanters. Displaying it on an office desk or bookshelf adds historical texture and metallic shine to contemporary decor.

Maintain the exterior using a dedicated silver polishing cloth or mild silver polish to remove tarnish without removing natural oxidation in carved areas. Flush the interior with warm water and ensure it is entirely dry prior to storage.
