Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An Edwardian silver-plated cake basket is a decorative table vessel produced during the reign of King Edward VII (19011910). Designed to hold cakes, pastries, or fruit, these baskets typically feature an arched swing handle, lobed sides, and relief decoration such as floral repousse or chased motifs.

These items were predominantly constructed using Electroplated Nickel Silver (EPNS), where a thin layer of pure silver was deposited over a durable nickel alloy base. The relief decorations were achieved through repousse workhammering from the reverse sideand chasing on the front face.

Authentic pieces usually feature manufacturer stamps, such as EPNS or maker marks, on the underside or rim. Stylistically, Edwardian silver displays fluid floral forms, fluted rims, lighter visual proportions, and refined repousse detailing distinct from heavier Victorian ornamentation.

A silver-plated basket functions effectively as a dining table centrepiece or a decorative display on a sideboard or console table. It can be left empty to highlight the internal repousse work, or filled with decorative objects, fruit, or greenery to add metallic contrast to contemporary wooden surfaces.

Silver plate should be polished gently using a non-abrasive silver cream or specialized polish cloth to prevent wearing down the outer silver layer to the base metal. Avoid using dip polish treatments or abrasive sponges, and store in low-humidity environments to minimize tarnish.
