Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Cased silver butter knife sets gained popularity during the 19th and early 20th centuries as refined dining accessories for afternoon tea and formal dinner service. They were typically presented in fitted velvet-lined boxes to protect the silver handles and blades when not in use.

These knives frequently feature hollow sterling silver or silver-plated handles filled with pitch or resin for weight, paired with silver-plated or stainless steel blades. The fitted presentation boxes were traditionally constructed from wood clad in leatherette or paper, lined with silk and velvet.

Authentic silver cutlery features stamped hallmarks on either the handles or blades, indicating the maker, purity, town of origin, and date letter. Genuine sets often show uniform design motifs, such as beaded or reeded borders, and slight hand-finishing variations across the individual pieces.

Cased silver knives can be used to elevate contemporary afternoon tea settings, breakfast tables, or charcuterie boards. They pair well with modern ceramic dinnerware and crisp linen napkins to create a mixed-era table setting.

Wash silver knives by hand in warm soapy water, avoiding soaking, as prolonged immersion or dishwashers can degrade the internal adhesive securing the blades to the handles. Dry immediately with a soft cloth and store in their original lined presentation box to prevent tarnish and scratching.
