Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian silver-handled butter knives were produced during the nineteenth century, designed specifically for formal tea services and dining. They typically feature intricate repousse or chased patterns on filled silver handles paired with steel or silver blades.

These items generally feature sterling silver or silver-plated handles that are hollow and resin-filled for weight and structural integrity. The blades are commonly crafted from steel, and sets were traditionally stored in fitted silk- or velvet-lined cases.

Authentic examples bear official British assay hallmarks indicating the fineness, town mark, date letter, and makers mark, usually stamped near the bolster or collar. The construction often reveals a slight join seam where the handle attaches to the bolster.

Display the open presentation box on a dining room sideboard, buffet, or open kitchen shelving to add visual interest. Alternatively, incorporate the individual knives into contemporary afternoon tea settings alongside porcelain dinnerware.

Hand wash the blades with warm soapy water, avoiding submerging the handles to prevent moisture from loosening the internal resin filling. Polish handles gently with a specialised silver cloth and store the set in its original lined case to prevent tarnish.
