Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian sterling silver flatware often features ornamental motifs, engraved patterns, and specialized functional forms tailored for formal dining rituals. Cased sets were particularly popular during the late nineteenth century as ceremonial gifts and tea table accessories.

Butter knives from this period were crafted from solid sterling silver or silver plate, featuring forged blades joined to handles that were either solid or filled. Precision drop-forging and hand-engraving techniques were combined to produce detailed decorative patterns and durable working edges.

Authentic Sheffield silver from 1896 carries a distinct set of official assay marks: the crown symbol for the Sheffield assay office, the lion passant indicating sterling purity, a specific date letter corresponding to 1896, and the makers initials.

Cased silver flatware can be displayed open on a sideboard or within a glass display cabinet to showcase the fabric lining and metal craftsmanship. The individual utensils may also be incorporated into contemporary table settings to add historical contrast during formal meals or afternoon tea.

Silver spreaders should be washed gently by hand in warm water with mild soap and dried immediately with a soft cloth to prevent water spots. Stored flatware benefits from anti-tarnish cloth linings or fitted leatherette display cases kept away from direct moisture and ambient humidity.
