Edwardian Twin Corinthian Capital Brass Table Lamp

1900 - 1920
Description

An Edwardian brass table lamp raised on a square stepped base, an inverted corinthian capital, smooth column and headed with a conventional corinthian capital. The clever contrast between the two capitals and the smooth column is most unusual and makes a very attractive and elegant antique lamp.

There is a very minor dent in the column, this does not detract in any way from the appeal of the lamp, this is clearly shown in the photographs. This elegant brass table lamp has been rewired with fibre covered twisted flex and PAT tested.

A decorative period lamp, easy to place in any interior. Shade is not included

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

These lamps draw inspiration from Classical architecture, incorporating stems shaped like ancient Greco-Roman columns topped with stylized acanthus leaf capitals. Produced extensively during the late Victorian and Edwardian periods, they reflect the Neoclassical revival in interior illumination.

The bases were predominantly crafted from cast and turned solid brass, featuring weighted square bases for stability. Castings were finished by hand chattering and polishing, with internal hollow columns designed to house early electrical wiring or converted oil reservoirs.

Authentic period examples exhibit crisp detail in the cast acanthus leaves of the capital, natural patination in recessed areas, and heavy stepped brass bases. Inspection of the underside often reveals original cast iron weights or early British maker hallmarks.

Column lamps provide architectural structure to tailored interiors, functioning well when paired with contemporary art on a dark wood sideboard or placed on a library desk. Selecting a pleated silk shade bridges traditional brasswork with modern fabric textures.

Clean the brass stem with a soft dry microfibre cloth to preserve existing patination, avoiding abrasive chemical cleaners. Gently dust pleated fabric shades using a soft brush attachment on a vacuum cleaner or a dry painters brush.
