Victorian Burr Walnut Writing Table

A highly decorative Victorian burr walnut writing table, beautifully finished with rich figured veneers and ornate gilt metal mounts. This elegant desk has a shaped serpentine front, raised superstructure and finely cast decorative brass gallery, giving it a strong and impressive period appearance.

The top is fitted with a tooled green leather writing surface, set within a richly figured burr walnut surround. The raised back section features small drawers to either side and a central drawer, all fitted with decorative brass handles. A shaped mirrored panel sits behind the raised gallery, adding depth and refinement to the design.

The front frieze is shaped and veneered in striking burr walnut, centred by an ornate gilt metal escutcheon and flanked by decorative brass mounts. The writing table stands on elegant cabriole legs, each with applied gilt metal mounts and sabots, giving the piece a distinctly French-influenced Victorian style.
