Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A bureau de dame is a ladies writing desk that originated in 18th-century France. It typically features a compact footprint, a sloping fall-front lid opening to a writing surface, and decorative details such as cabriole legs and brass mounts.

Victorian cabinetmakers frequently used figured walnut and burr walnut veneers, inlaid with contrasting timbers such as boxwood or fruitwood. Decorative elements often included cast brass or gilt-bronze mounts, leaded or plain glass, and mirrored panels.

Authentic 19th-century pieces display hand-cut joinery inside drawer boxes, original brass or bronze cast mounts attached with period screws, and natural age-related patination on the timber and metalwork.

An ornamental writing desk functions well as a focal point in a hallway, bedroom, or living area. Combining its intricate woodwork with minimal contemporary lighting or simple modern artwork creates an effective visual contrast.

Dust timber regularly with a soft, dry cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year. Avoid chemical cleaners on brass mounts, as aggressive polishing can remove original patination.
