An Extremely Attractive Late 19th Century Giltwood & Gesso Overmantle Wall Mirror, Having Old Rectangular Mirror Plate, Set Within Moulded Frame With Elegant Shell Carved C Scrolls To Each Corner And Central Set Pagoda Top With Cascading Stalactites.
This is an incredibly attractive mirror of good functional size. It is just about big enough to fill a good size space on the wall, but certainly not overpoweringly large.
It also boasts real elegance and charm. The giltwood frame, which incidentally dates to the late 19th century, despite being in the 18th century design style, reatains a lovely lustre and surface to it.
There is some very elegant carved decoration to the top of the mirror, all of which is extremely well carried out for a victorian period mirror. The pagoda top with cascading stalactites is incredibly elegant and really creates a lovely feature.
The mirror plate itself is certainly old and could quite possibly be original, but we wouldn''t like to guarantee
... this as its condition feels perhaps just slightly better than it would be if original, with just a few minor areas of pitting and silvering.
As with all objects which we offer for sale the mirror has been inspected by our highly skilled antique furniture restorers and received a gentle light clean before being placed on sale, so as to ensure that it is in the best possible condition and ready for immediate placement.
