An escapement visible through the oval top glass. A repeater button to the top. Numbered 7343 to the mechanism back. Circa 1900.

Traditional carriage clocks are primarily constructed from brass cases with polished or gilded finishes, bevelled glass viewing panels, and fired white enamel dials featuring hand-painted Roman or Arabic numerals.

Authentic period examples feature heavy brass construction, bevelled glass panels rather than plastic, platform escapements visible through top glass apertures, and often makers stamps, serial numbers, or trademarks stamped onto the backplate.

A classic brass carriage clock can be styled on a living room mantelpiece, an office desk, or a bookshelf alongside stacked books and contemporary decorative ceramics to introduce texture and historic contrast.

Keep the timepiece in a dry, stable environment free from high humidity. Clean the brass exterior gently using a soft, dry lint-free cloth without abrasive polishes, and have the mechanical movement serviced by a professional horologist every three to five years.
