Condition / Servicing Note:

Please note that antique clocks are complex and sensitive mechanical objects. While some clocks may be running at the time of listing we cannot guarantee ongoing performance without a full inspection and testing period by our specialist horologist. Where inspection, testing, or servicing is required this process can take between 2–12 weeks depending on the clock, the work needed, and current workload. This careful approach helps ensure the clock is properly assessed rather than rushed.

Clock Warranty

All clocks purchased from London City Antiques are supplied with a 12-month warranty from the date of purchase.

This warranty covers mechanical faults and failures arising from normal use. It does not extend to damage resulting from improper handling, unauthorised tampering, accidental or physical damage, environmental factors (including humidity, temperature fluctuations, or exposure to direct sunlight), or misuse.

Should a clock develop a genuine fault within the warranty period that meets the above conditions, we will, at our discretion and at no cost to you, arrange for the repair or replacement of any defective parts. All remedial work will be carried out by a fully qualified and experienced horologist.

In the unlikely event that a fault cannot be satisfactorily resolved, a full refund will be offered.

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Carriage clocks were developed in France during the early nineteenth century for travellers needing a durable and portable timepiece. Designed to withstand the movement of horse-drawn carriages, they quickly became popular across Europe during the Victorian era.

Traditional carriage clocks feature heavy brass cases, often gilded or polished, fitted with clear bevelled glass panels on all sides. The dial is typically made from white enamel over copper, with painted steel hands and a mechanical spring-driven movement.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit heavy brass construction, bevelled glass plates, a white enamel dial with Roman numerals, and an escapement visible through a top glass window. Stamped maker marks or serial numbers are often present on the back plate of the movement.

A brass carriage clock functions well as a decorative object on a fireplace mantelpiece, bookshelf, or desk. Its clean geometric brass form and neutral enamel face allow it to complement both traditional and modern minimal interiors.

Dust the brass casing and glass panels regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth. Avoid using liquid chemical polishes or water directly on the movement, and consult a qualified horologist for internal mechanical servicing and oiling.
