Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A carriage clock is a small, spring-driven portable clock developed in the early nineteenth century for travel. It features a rectangular brass case with glass side panels, a top carrying handle, and a balance wheel escapement that keeps time despite movement.

Late Victorian and late nineteenth-century carriage clocks are predominantly constructed from solid brass or gilt brass cases with bevelled glass panels. The dial is typically made of white enamel with painted Roman numerals, while the internal gear mechanisms are fashioned from brass and steel.

Authentic pieces from the 1890s feature heavy cast or stamped brass cases, white enamel dials free from modern printing, and mechanical movements stamped with maker marks or serial numbers on the back plate. They rely on key-wound mechanisms and balance wheel escapements rather than quartz or battery components.

A brass carriage clock can be positioned on a fireplace mantelpiece, bookshelf, or executive desk alongside structured accessories. The classic metallic tone creates visual contrast against dark timber surfaces or contemporary neutral walls.

To preserve the clock, dust the glass panels and brass exterior gently with a microfibre cloth and avoid harsh chemical cleaners that remove historic patina. Mechanical movements require periodic servicing by a horologist every five to seven years to maintain correct lubrication and operation.
