Georgian rummers. Set of six rummers the large slightly flared bowls with basal cutting, blade knops and plain feet with polished pontils English c1830.

Rim dia: 10.4 cm.

Foot dia: 8.5 cm.

Weight: 427 grams (one).

Condition: Very good.

Note: A good usable set.

A Georgian glass rummer is a sturdy, short-stemmed drinking vessel with a broad bowl, widely produced in Britain during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. They were primarily designed for serving spirits, toddies, and punch in taverns and domestic settings.

These vessels were hand-blown using heavy lead crystal glass, which provided superior clarity and resonance. Craftsmen used hand-cutting techniques to create decorative fluting, panel cuts, or facets around the lower section of the bowl and added hand-formed knopped stems.

Authentic period glassware often features a polished pontil mark on the underside of the base, subtle irregularities from hand-blowing, and a characteristic greyish or purplish tint to the lead glass. Slight variation in size across a matching set is also indicative of hand production.

A matching set of rummers can be arranged on a silver tray atop a sideboard, displayed within a glazed cabinet, or integrated into a formal dining table setting as water or wine goblets.
