Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A George II period oak dresser, dating from roughly 1727 to 1760, is a functional British storage piece typically constructed from solid native oak. These pieces often feature a lower sideboard section with frieze drawerssometimes combined with a pot shelf basesurmounted by an open tiered rack for displaying pewter or ceramics.

18th-century dressers were predominantly crafted from solid English or Welsh oak using joinery techniques such as hand-cut dovetail joints, mortise and tenon construction, and wooden peg fixings. Drawers were fitted with hand-cast brass swan-neck handles or teardrop pulls, and backboards were hand-sawn.

Authentic 18th-century dressers display signs of hand-tooling, including irregular saw marks on backboards and drawer linings, along with natural wood shrinkage around joints and pegs. Original brassware usually exhibits minor casting variations and surface oxidisation consistent with age.

An antique oak dresser serves as a focal piece in a modern dining room, kitchen, or hallway. The open shelves can be used to display stoneware, transferware ceramics, or glassware, while the dark wood creates contrast when set against neutral plaster or painted walls.

To preserve antique oak, apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year using a soft cloth, buffing along the grain. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and radiators to prevent timber movement, drying, or splitting.
