Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A George III tray-top commode is an 18th-century piece of English furniture designed with a raised gallery rim around the top surface, incorporating carved handles. Originally created as a bedroom night cupboard to conceal chamber pots, these pieces feature a lower shelf or cupboard door.

Georgian commodes were predominantly constructed using dense West Indian or Cuban mahogany, valued for its stability and rich grain. Secondary woods like pine or oak were used for drawer linings and internal frames, complemented by solid brass drop handles or knobs.

Authentic 18th-century examples display hand-cut joinery such as dovetail joints, hand-sawn secondary timbers, and authentic oxidisation on the underside and back boards. The tray top typically features hand-pierced handle openings and traditional oak or pine drawer bottoms.

These historical cabinets function effectively as bedside tables, end tables in a living area, or side cabinets in a hallway. The gallery top prevents objects from sliding off, making them suitable for supporting table lamps and decorative items.

Maintain mahogany by dusting regularly with a dry, soft cloth and applying beeswax polish once or twice a year in the direction of the wood grain. Keep the item away from direct sunlight, radiators, and high humidity to prevent timber movement or surface cracking.
